Experian list the top ten sectors for micro businesses and guess what, DMC and Anytech do not feature in the list. The UK has seen a surge in micros and entrepreneurial start ups according to research by Experian but the growth sectors have been business, property and professional services.
This supports the research and proposition outlined in earlier blog posts and in the pro.manchester research into Innovation and Enterprise. DMC Digital Media and Creative so often grab the headlines and investment excitement along with bio tech, green tech, any tech but the major growth for start ups is in business services.
Top ten sectors in the Experian research are :
Business and Management Consultancy
Building and Construction
Software Consultancy and Supply
Architecture and Engineering
Computer related activities including web related services.
Real Estate
Property Letting
Accounting Book Keeping
Installation Electrical Gas etc
Other retail activity and specialised stores.
Analysis of SME’s what business is Manchester really in supports the proposition, the major growth is in business and property related services. Sector support is less expensive than DMC or “anytech” and it is lower risk since the sector has a better survival rate.
The sector would benefit from networking, co working facilities, assistance and advice and the Bank of Manchester style of “lifestyle” start up funding. pro.manchesterConnects has a big role to play.
